First Bloom - Daffodil

Eagles

It was windy and raining when I took these photos, but it is always fun the see the eagles!

Primitive Apothecary Jars

These are a new addition to my sewing room.  Check out A Diamond in the Stuff for the wonderful directions to make these. I used old 2 quart Ball jars and a recycled post from my remodeling project. I have old wooden spools in one, buttons in another and ripped rag balls in the last one.  My friend, Rose, helped me make them look more antique by adding some brown paint over the white paint.  I just love them!  Thank you Courtney, for the great directions.

Scrap paper flower

My girlfriends and I made these cute flowers out of scrapbooking paper, thanks to the wonderful directions from "Mandi being Crafty".  Click here for the directions.

They really are fun to make!  We made the 3" balls with the 2 1/2" circle, and the 2" balls with 1 1/2" paper. Thanks Mandi for the great idea!

More Snow

This is what my garden looked like on Saturday morning when I woke up.  We are supposed to get more snow today. I am beginning to think I will never have spring.

Autumn Joy Sedum.

Autumn Joy sedum is an easy to grow perennial for zones 3-9. It is a drought tolerant plant that features attractive foliage and a large rose-colored flower head. To learn more about Autumn Joy sedum click here.

Resurrection Lily, Surprise Lily or Naked Lady Lily

Late summer-blooming bulb of the Amaryllis family. Strap-like grayish-green leaves (to 12” long and 1” wide) in spring. Leaves die back in summer. Thick naked flower scapes rise to 2’ tall in late summer, each bearing 4-7 funnel-shaped, rose-pink tinged with lilac flowers that are quite fragrant.

Hen and Chicks

Hens and chicks plants are mat-forming succulents that produce clusters of rosettes. The parent rosettes are the "hens," and the smaller rosettes that spring from them are the "chicks" or "chickens." This low-growing (4") perennial will quickly spread to 2' or more in width. Although grown for its foliage, hens and chicks do flower. The "hens" will die after flowering, but by that time they will have produced numerous "chicks" or "chickens" to take their place.

I think I am going to have a problem with the rabbits this year.  This guy let me get 2 feet from him before he moved.  I knows where he sleeps, but I just can't hurt him.  They drive me crazy, when they eat my flowers.  And they eat a lot!

Mourning Dove

This is the first Mourning Dove I have seen this Spring.The Mourning Dove is about 12 inches in length, and weighs an average of 4 to 6 ounces. Mourning Doves have perching feet, with three toes forward and one reversed. The legs are short and reddish colored. I had forgotten how red the legs are.

FUN FACT: The Mourning Dove is monogamous and forms strong pair bonds. Mourning Doves often mate for life. If one is killed, the breeding pair is lost.
